Love is Water
Love is water that hews down slate and granite and rock
With each passing moment and year.
Love is the water we thirst for,
The water that leaves desert and cracked earth when gone.
The water that washes feet, washes dishes, cures diseases, blooms flowers and grasses
Love is the water we long to sink into,
The water that drowns.
Love is the ocean divided into billions of drops,
Drops by the billions that wander the earth in rivers, and great lakes, and puddles,
Or alone on a leaf.
Love is the drops that gather together, merge, split apart,
And rise invisibly back into clouds.
Love is the water of which flesh is made,
Love is the water we must drink every day.
Love is the water that forever seeks
Its return to the sea.
